Question

Q: Are there any commercially available membrane systems at this time?
A: There are many commercial membrane systems available, with > 5 companies making reverse osmosis membranes for water treatment (Dow Filmtec, Hydranautics, Toray, Koch, CSM, Toyobo, GE Osmonics etc) and a comparable number of companies making MF/UF systems (Siemens, Dow, GE, Pall,... more

materials-logo-newsYou are invited to submit a manuscript to a special "Porous Materials" edition of MATERIALS (http://www.mdpi.com/journal/materials/, ISSN 1996-1944).

Porous materials are finding application in fields such as membranes for water purification and gas separation or the slow release of drugs, and  porous (single crystal) semi-conductors for uses in photonics, sensors, Li ion batteries, MEMS, and bio technology. Similarly there is a wide range of fabrication techniques, such as lithography, phase inversion, templating and vapor deposition, and characterizing such materials has required advances in imaging and spectroscopy. Articles that focus on the characterization, fabrication, performance or modelling of porous materials are welcomed, and organic, inorganic and composite materials systems will be considered.

You should submit your manuscripts by e-mail to materials@mdpi.com by the deadline of 28 February 2011. The subject title of the message should be "Manuscript for Special Issue on Porous Materials 2011".

For further details regarding this special edition, please contact stephen.gray@vu.edu.au
